PROJECT BY DWA DESIGN STUDIO
MADE WITH OTTO
Department store Rinascente in Piazza Fiume in Rome celebrates its sixty years this year, revealing the first steps in the redesign of the historic building, which will end in 2023. The architecture of Rinascente in Piazza Fiume bears the signature of Franca Helg and Franco Albini, and it is precisely by restoring and enhancing the 1961 project, without compromising it, that Studio 2050+ by Ippolito Pestellini Laparelli relaunches the building in a new guise. The interior design of the different floors have been assigned to various architects, including DWA Design Studio, who have been ask to design the forth and first floor of the store. The fourth floor, dedicated to women’s wear and lingerie is the first to open. For the project we tried to find a balance between the identity of our design codes and the importance of using the space of the original project. It is a design made of contrasts, distributed on almost imperceptible levels, however crucial for an accurate layout and attentive to functionality. Two colours predominate in the palette: a brick red and a milky green colour. The first accurately marks the atmosphere through a ceiling with an orthogonal grid structure in which a new lighting system is inserted; the other softens the space with high wavy screens made of perforated metal tubular sheet that enclose the area dedicated to lingerie. Traces of green are also mixed with ivory white to complete the display furniture. The dressing rooms are conceived as alternated monochrome niches in brick red or green. Display tables, plinths and VM tools are made in grey recycled resin board by GEES and briar veneer by Alpi, with lacquered glass tops giving a luxury touch.
